AKELCO would like to inform the public of the rate per kilowatt hour for the month of September. For Residential consumers with monthly electric consumption of 21kwh-up, power rate is ₱15.1166/kwh.; for Low Voltage Consumers electricity consumption is being charged at the rate of ₱14.1757/kwh; and for High Voltage power rate is ₱12.5797/kwh.

In comparison to the last months’ power rate, there is an increase of ₱1.5502 /kwh. This is mainly due to the increase in Generation Charge being billed monthly for the power we bought from the generation companies like GCGI or Greencore Geothermal Inc., PEDC or Panay Energy Dev’t Corp., PPC or Panay Power Corp., PCPC o Palm Concepcion Power Corp., and WESM or Wholesale Electricity Spot Market. The spike in bunker oil and coal prices due to Russian-Ukraine War greatly affects electricity rates.

With the pass-on system of calculating electric cooperatives’ power rate as stipulated in the rules formulated by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), AKELCO blended power rate is directly affected in every instance of increase or decrease of generation charge particularly with the exposure to WESM (Wholesale Electricity Spot Market) whenever energy demand rises leaving AKELCO vulnerable to the volatility of its prices.

AKELCO charges Distribution, Supply and Metering System Charge (DSM), on the other hand, that are included in the blended rate, being utilized for AKELCO’s daily operation remains at P1.6109/kwh inclusive of EVAT. It has not increased since 2009. Except for DSM, AKELCO is only a collector of other charges and remits the same to the respective agencies.
