KALIBO, AKLAN – In a continued effort to improve local infrastructure, Vice Mayor Dr. Cynthia Dela Cruz has successfully passed a resolution allocating an annual budget for barangay road expansion, ensuring better mobility and accessibility for all 17 barangays in Kalibo.
This initiative, which has received the full support of Mayor Juris Sucro, aims to address the town’s long-standing issue of limited road networks. Kalibo, spanning approximately 50 square kilometers, currently has 141 kilometers of road network, translating to a road-to-land area density of less than 3 kilometers per square kilometer—significantly below the national average of 10 kilometers per square kilometer.
This lack of road infrastructure has posed challenges for daily commuters, businesses, and farmers, limiting economic growth and access to essential services.
To tackle this issue, Vice Mayor Dela Cruz has allocated between P500,000 to P1 million annually per barangay for road acquisition and development.
With Mayor Juris Sucro’s backing, this initiative ensures that each barangay receives the necessary funding to improve road conditions, making travel safer and more efficient.
“Investing in road infrastructure is investing in the future of Kalibo. By ensuring that each barangay gets its fair share of funding, we are building a stronger, more connected community,” said Vice Mayor Dela Cruz.
Mayor Sucro echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure in driving local development. “We fully support this initiative because better roads mean better opportunities for our people. This is a step towards progress for every barangay in Kalibo,” he stated.
The project has been met with enthusiasm from barangay officials and residents, particularly those in remote areas who have long struggled with poor road conditions. Improved access is expected to benefit students, workers, farmers, and small businesses, ultimately enhancing economic activities and overall quality of life.
As Kalibo continues to expand, the strong collaboration between Vice Mayor Dela Cruz and Mayor Sucro is paving the way for a more accessible, economically thriving, and well-connected municipality.
