Iloilo City- The Department of Tourism Region VI, in collaboration with the Provincial Tourism Office of Aklan, recently conducted a “Sustainable Tourism Training” as part of the Tourism Industry Skills Program (TISP). Held at Nenette’s Garden in Kalibo, Aklan, this seminar brought together tourism stakeholders from across the province to delve into the principles of sustainable tourism.
The training aimed to equip participants with the skills needed to assess and manage the impacts of tourism on environmental, socio-cultural, and economic aspects. The seminar emphasized the importance of economic viability, environmental sustainability, cultural sensitivity, and social equity in developing sustainable tourism programs.
A total of 25 tourism stakeholders from various parts of Aklan participated in the event, led by the dynamic speaker, Dr. Freddie A. Quinito. The seminar featured a series of methodologies, including lectures, workshops, and group reporting, to ensure that participants gained practical knowledge and insights.
The event was also graced by Ms. Roselle Ruiz, Provincial Tourism Officer of Aklan, who emphasized in her opening remarks the significance of sustainability not only in amenities but also in the operations of tourism establishments. “This training will benefit all stakeholders by promoting sustainability not only in our facilities but also in our overall business practices. We believe that through this training, our stakeholders will become more aware of the consequences of neglecting the 3Ps—People, Planet, and Profit,” Ms. Ruiz stated.
At the Department of Tourism, our commitment is to invest in people, enhancing their skills, knowledge, and awareness of the importance of sustainability. Our goal is not just to benefit the region, but to ensure that everyone reaps the rewards of a sustainable tourism industry.
