𝗕𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗼 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘀

Miranda, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon – Twenty-three participants of the Bamboo Farm Business School (FBS) presented their business plans on Friday September 20, 2024, showcasing their newfound skills and entrepreneurial spirit. The event aimed to equip aspiring bamboo entrepreneurs with the knowledge and tools needed to succeed in the industry.

The participants’ product offerings were diverse, ranging from modern “bahay kubo” (traditional Filipino houses) to bamboo boards, slats, baskets, decorative items, and souvenirs. One participant shared a valuable lesson learned: the importance of meticulous cost recording. He explained that he now meticulously tracks every expense in producing “bahay kubo,” a practice that was previously overlooked. This newfound attention to detail allows him to accurately calculate profit margins and make informed business decisions.

The participants also emphasized the importance of quality in their products. They have adopted new techniques, such as treating the bamboo to eliminate “bokbok” (a type of insect infestation) and extend the shelf life of their products. This commitment to quality ensures that their creations are both aesthetically pleasing and durable, enhancing their market appeal.

The Bamboo Farm Business School was funded by Bukidnon 1st District Congressman Joeman Alba in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Manolo Fortich. The program’s success was evident in the participants’ well-prepared business plans and the quality of their products. The panelists included Congressman Alba’s bamboo Engineer Consultant Jonathan Cabrera, Committee Chair on Agriculture Councilor Raquel Bayacag, Committee Chair on Farmers Councilor Elzevir Dagunlay, and Efren C. Macario, FBS focal person of the ATI-RTC 10, were impressed by the participants’ progress.

This initiative not only empowers individuals but also contributes to the sustainable development of the bamboo industry in Bukidnon. By providing training and support, the Bamboo Farm Business School fosters economic growth while promoting the use of a renewable and eco-friendly resource. (text and photos by: Efren C.
