Kalibo, Aklan- Employees of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) โ€“ Aklan Provincial Office temporarily set aside their regular duties and proceeded to the Bakhawan Eco-Park, New Buswang, Kalibo on September 8, 2026 to conduct a mangrove planting activity aimed at helping reforest and preserve the areaโ€™s coastal ecosystem.

The activity forms part of PSA-Aklanโ€™s celebration of its 13th Founding Anniversary, which will be commemorated on September 12, 2026.

Around 100 mangrove propagules were planted by PSA-Aklan employees as a symbol of the agencyโ€™s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.

According to Dr. Peter S. Mangilog, OIC-Chief Statistical Specialist of PSA-Aklan, the activity demonstrates that the agency not only focuses on its mandate of generating quality statistics and providing civil registration and National ID services, but also fulfills its social responsibility by caring for the environment.

โ€œWe need to protect our environment, and this is one way of instilling in the minds of our employees the importance of environmental conservation,โ€ Dr. Mangilog said.

Before the planting activity, participants were oriented by Mr. Willie B. Ramos, Bakhawan Eco-Park Manager, on the proper techniques for planting mangroves and were introduced to the different mangrove species found in the area.

The orientation equipped employees with knowledge and strengthened their appreciation of the vital role mangroves play in protecting coastal communities and ecosystems.

Dr. Mangilog likewise expressed his commitment to make the activity a regular undertaking of PSA-Aklan as part of the officeโ€™s continuing environmental advocacy and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

After the planting activity, the team took a short tour of the eco-park, allowing employees to appreciate nature and strengthen their awareness of environmental conservation.
