Kalibo, Aklan youth leader, volunteer teacher, and councilor Phillip Yerro Kimpo was recently featured as one of twenty “outstanding public officials” in the book titled “The 3Es of Leadership: A Playbook for Successful Politics and Governance.”
The recognition is courtesy of the Germany-based Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) and the Philippine-based Kaya Natin Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership.
Kimpo is the only Aklanon included in the book, and is one of two from Panay Island. In the list, he joins the likes of the late former mayor of Naga City and DILG Secretary, Jesse Robredo.
“Kalibo can expect more great things from their indefatigable councilor,” the book states.
One aspect of Kimpo’s brand of leadership featured in the book are his experience as a volunteer NGO worker, and his advocacy of the “holistic development of the Aklanon youth that covers their mind, body, and spiritual growth.”
The book also narrates that Kimpo’s public service journey started before politics, via nationwide outreach programs. To this day, Kimpo conducts and has conducted various outreach programs in his home province of Aklan, especially providing help and succor to communities in the time of pandemic.
As a legislator, Kimpo has authored more than 250+ ordinances and resolutions. One of these created Kalibo’s Local Youth Development Office, the first in the province of Aklan.
Other accomplishments featured in the book are the national programs delivered by Kimpo to hundreds of Aklanon youth leaders, athletes, artists, students, and teachers.
During his two terms as Kalibo Sangguniang Bayan Member, Kimpo has also put up infrastructure projects — the “Vibrant Kalibo” tourism landmark in the town plaza, the expansion of the Barangay Estancia Hall, and the Php 5 Million Community Rehabilitation Center currently being constructed in Barangay Nalook.
Kimpo is the founder of the provincial youth organization Pulong ng Kabataan, and is currently the chairperson of the National Movement of Young Legislators – Aklan Chapter.
