BORACAY Island, Malay Aklan- Second District Congressman Teodorico Hareco Jr. said the Malay PNP should be investigated for alleged turning off tourists after enforcers recently apprehend tourists not wearing face masks in Boracay front beach.
In a press conference, Haresco said that he received reports that police enforcers reportedly gave citation tickets to tourists not wearing facemasks while loitering at the beach.
“I said these things to Governor Florencio Miraflores and Malay Mayor Floribar Bautista. What the enforcers did was scaring the tourists. These should be investigated,” he said.
Reports indicate that there is an existing Malay policy allowing tourists not to wear facemasks while at the beach. Apparently, the policy is not clear how many meters from the beach will tourists be allowed not to wear face masks.
“The police operation comes at a time wherein we are starting to enjoy the influx of tourists to Boracay. Giving citation tickets to tourists not wearing facemasks and asking them to pay a P500 penalty is turning off tourists in Boracay,” Haresco said.
