Kalibo, Aklan | The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist in collaboration with the Department of Agricultureโ€“Regional Field Office VI, successfully conducted a two-day training workshop on the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Information System (DRRMIS) on August 18โ€“19, 2025 at the Aklan Agri-Aqua Demonstration Farm and Training Center.
Designed specifically for Agricultural Extension Workers under the Rice Program, the workshop highlighted the significance of the Damage Assessment and Reporting System (DARS) and the Damage and Loss Assessment (DALA), which are vital tools designed to streamline and standardize reporting processes. These systems utilize structured forms that enable AEWs and technicians to generate accurate, consistent, and reliable reports. Moreover, they help minimize errors, ensure uniformity in documentation, and promote faster communication and coordination among concerned offices. Strengthening these skills is expected to improve the provinceโ€™s capacity to respond more effectively to climate-related risks affecting rice farmers.
A total of 38 participants comprising Municipal DRRMIS Encoders, Municipal Rice Report Officers from the 17 municipalities of Aklan, and Provincial Validator, Coordinators and Report Officers from the OPA actively joined the training.
The OPA extended its gratitude to DA-RFO VI for its support, underscoring that the activity comes at a critical time when farmers are increasingly exposed to disasters such as typhoons, droughts, and flooding. The initiative highlights the provinceโ€™s commitment to safeguarding rice production and ensuring the resilience of local farming communities against the challenges of climate change. #
