Eight drug surrenderers complete ‘Balay Silangan’ Community Rehabilitation

A total of 8 drug surrenderees from Barangay Manocmanoc, who successfully completed the three-month community rehabilitation program through the local government unit’s (LGU) “Balay Silangan” headed by Hon. Frolibar Bautista, Acting Mun. Mayor, were visited by the PNP, PDEA, MSWD, BADAC and MHO led by Ms. Joan Victoriano, Focal Person.
The 8 rehabilitation graduates were the first batch of the successful local government-run program which opened in November 2020. As part of the reintegration process, the LGU will provide guaranteed work for the graduates who continues to monitor their progress outside the program.
While confined in “Balay Silangan”, participants underwent a structure and intensive community rehabilitation program with the goal of getting rid of their addiction to illegal drugs and other substances for a period of 90 days.
“Balay Silangan”, a national drug reformation program established by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in January 2018 and nationally implemented with the PNP and host LGUs, is a temporary refuge with the objective of reforming drug offenders into self-sufficient and law-abiding members of society.
The success of the Balay Silangan Program in Malay only shows the efforts and commitment of LGU, BADACs, Agencies involved and the community in fighting the drug problem in the country.
