QUEZON CITY —Following the recent announcement of its strong financial performance, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) today detailed the rigorous, multi-layered safeguards that guide its investment strategy, ensuring the security and responsible growth of its members’ funds.

Speaking at “The Agenda” media forum hosted by Atty. Siegfred Mison, GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso emphasized that a disciplined, principles-based process is the bedrock of the fund’s management.

“This discipline is crucial,” PGM Veloso stated. “We receive contributions of 21%, yet we are mandated to pay out a pension of up to 90% of our members’ average salary over their last three years of service. Our investment strategy must bridge that gap.”

“There are no shortcuts, and no single person decides. Every investment proposal is vetted by our internal research office, an Assets and Liabilities Committee, and a Board-level Risk Oversight Committee before it can ever be presented to the full Board for a vote. This system of checks and balances is non-negotiable.”

He added that, as an investment banker for more than four decades, he was trained to adhere to the strictest guidelines and governance in managing other people’s money.

This disciplined approach, anchored on the core principles of Liquidity, Safety, and Yield, is what enabled the fund to achieve its recent success, including a net income of ₱112 billion as of September this year and total assets of ₱1.92 trillion, securing its fund life until 2058.

“Our members can be confident that a robust governance framework is in place to protect their fund,” Veloso concluded. “Our singular focus is on managing their money with the highest level of professionalism and integrity to guarantee their pension when they retire.”
