This landmark event was spearheaded by the Municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (MFARMC), headed by Mr. Jonas Flores, and the Boracay Fishing Festival Organizers, led by Hon. Jhonnel Casidsid, in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Malay under the leadership of Hon. Mayor Frolibar Sacapaño Bautista, through the support of the Malay Municipal Tourism Office, led by Dr. Felix G. Delos Santos Jr., and the Municipal Agriculture Office, headed by Mr. Denric Augustus B. Sadiasa, Municipal Agriculturist, bringing together fishing communities in a celebration that promotes sportsmanship, sustainable fisheries, and environmental stewardship.
In his opening message, Malay Municipal Mayor shared the importance of this initiative in remembering the roots of Boracay Island.
“For generations, long before this island became a global tourism powerhouse, our ancestors cast their nets and lines into these very waters. This festival is a tribute to that heritage. It is a celebration of our identity, our community spirit, and our commitment to sustainable marine ecotourism.”
As the first fishing festival of its kind in the Municipality of Malay, the Boracay Fishing Festival marks the beginning of a new tradition, one that honors our fisherfolk, showcases the abundance of our seas, and strengthens the bonds among fishing enthusiasts from all corners of the archipelago.
🌊 From the vast waters of the Municipality of Malay, a new tradition is born.
Join and witness the awarding ceremony of this first-ever festival on June 7, 2026, at 5:00 PM. Freshly caught fish will also be available for purchase at lower prices.
