Tagbilaran City- The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), led by Gov. Aris Aumentado, has made a move to safeguard one of the provinceโs most celebrated agricultural products.
This was after the Bohol Economic Development and Investment Promotion Office (BEDIPO) filed an application for Geographical Indication (GI) protection for Bohol Ubi Kinampay.
Widely recognized as the โQueen of Philippine Yams,โ Bohol Ubi Kinampay is known for its distinct qualities that are closely tied to the provinceโs unique geography, fertile soil, favorable climate, and generations of traditional farming practices.
As a Geofood product of Bohol, the countryโs first UNESCO Global Geopark, it has earned a strong reputation in both local and international culinary markets.
If granted, GI protection will help preserve the authenticity of Bohol Ubi Kinampay by preventing false origin claims and unauthorized use of its name.
The measure is expected to strengthen consumer confidence, enhance market value, and further promote Boholโs rich agricultural heritage, a priority aligned with PGBh’s Strategic Governance Roadmap.
