DOT 10, Camiguin Intensify Reef Protection Efforts During Isle Dive 2026

CAMIGUIN — The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 10 and the Provincial Government of Camiguin are strengthening marine conservation efforts as the province hosts the 6th Northmin Dive: Isle Dive Camiguin 2026, scheduled from August 13 to 16.

One of the key activities is the removal of Crown-of-Thorns (COT) starfish, a marine species known to feed on coral. When their populations become excessive, they can cause significant damage to coral reefs and threaten the health of marine ecosystems.

The COT removal initiative aims to protect Camiguin’s coral reefs and preserve the rich underwater biodiversity that has made the island a destination for divers and marine enthusiasts.

By undertaking the conservation activity during the diving season, DOT 10 and the provincial government are promoting responsible tourism while helping maintain healthy and resilient reefs for future generations.

The initiative also supports the DOT’s “Discover More to Love” campaign, highlighting the importance of protecting the natural attractions that visitors come to experience.

The activity is being conducted in collaboration with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and other local stakeholders.

Through this multi-agency effort, Camiguin continues to strengthen reef stewardship and sustainable tourism, ensuring that its underwater treasures remain vibrant and accessible to divers and visitors.

The initiative underscores a simple message: to discover and enjoy nature is also to protect it.
