Roxas City- Two environmental violators in one area got caught during a random surveillance carried out by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO) in the province of Capiz, recently.

In Brgy. Bailan, Pontevedra, Capiz, a top down tricycle was caught loaded with 1,000 pieces of Nipa shingles supposedly bound for the municipality of President Roxas. The Nipa shingles have an estimated market value of Php 4,000.00 but are without the necessary legal documents for its transport. The Monitoring and Enforcement Section (MES) team of PENRO Capiz intercepted the tricycle at around
12:57 p.m. on January 23, 2025.

At around 1:18 o’clock in the afternoon, another conveyance spotted in the same area was intercepted by the MES team. The vehicle bears Plate No. VAW-355 and was carrying sixteen (16) chairs made of Gmelina species to be delivered to the municipality of Maayon. The forest products have an estimated market value of Php 9,600.00.

Both illegally transported forest products were issued apprehension receipts for violating Section 77 of Presidential Decree 705 or the Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines. The apprehended conveyances and forest products are now under the
custody of PENRO Capiz for further legal action.

PENRO Capiz, now under the lead of PENR Officer Ernest C. Federiso, is intent on strongly implementing environmental laws as its team of enforcers closes in on areas known for carrying out illegal transport activities.

“We commend Capiz PENR Officer Ernest C. Federiso and the Capiz MES personnel for bravely enforcing our environmental laws,” said DENR 6 Regional Executive Director Raul L. Lorilla. “It may be a small win, yet it is still a win for the environment,” he added./DENR 6
