
Roxas City, Capiz- The province of Capiz and the town of Kalibo are currently preparing for the celebration of Chinese New Year on February 5–10 this year.
Ronald So, a Chinese-Filipino businessman in Capiz, told the Boracay Island News Network that the Capiz celebration will officially start on February 5 with different sets of activities lined up.
“The provincial government, headed by Governor Fredenil Castro, wanted the said event to be a provincewide celebration.
This is in collaboration with the Human Resource Management Office, the Provincial Disaster Risks and Reduction Management Office, the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office, and the Provincial Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office with the Filipino-Chinese community,” said So.
“The idea of the Chinese New Year revelry is to lure Chinese investors to invest in Capiz,” he added.
The Chinese New Year in Capiz starts on February 5 and will be held at the front of the Capiz provincial capitol with a lion and dragon eye dotting ceremony. From February 7–10, 2024, there will be a lion and dragon dance around the province.
On February 9, 2024, a Lotus Lantern Floating Ceremony will be held in the Panay River from 4:00 p.m. onwards. On February 10, 2024, a Chinese Food Festival will be held at Roxas Avenue. A Chinese New Year Parade will also be staged from SM Roxas to Arnaldo Boulevard, Hughes Street, and Roxas Avenue on the same day.
Meanwhile, in Kalibo, Kalibo Vice Mayor Cynthia Dela Cruz said the ati-atihan town will be staging a dragon dance parade around major thoroughfares of this town.
