KALIBO, Aklan- Motorists and commuters in Kalibo, Aklan can soon expect smoother traffic flow and smarter road management as the municipality becomes one of the latest beneficiaries of an advanced traffic signalization system under the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Office’s (LTO) Traffic Management Mentorship Assistance Program (TMMAP).
The stretch from Osmeña Avenue to Tigayon Diversion Road is set to embrace modern traffic technology following the official turnover of a state-of-the-art traffic signalization system by the LTO, represented by Executive Director Atty. Martin P. Ontog, to Kalibo Mayor Juris Bautista Sucro.
The turnover ceremony was also graced by LTO-6 Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II, LTO Kalibo District Office Chief Engr. Marlon Velez, Mayor Sucro, and Kalibo Councilor Matt Aaron P. Guzman.
The project forms part of the Traffic Management Mentorship Assistance Program, a collaborative initiative of the DOTr and the LTO aimed at helping local government units modernize traffic management and improve road safety through innovative solutions.
What sets the new system apart is its smart technology sourced from South Korea. Equipped with sensor cameras and intelligent traffic management features, the signalization system can monitor real-time traffic conditions and automatically adjust the duration of green lights depending on the volume of vehicles on the road.
Unlike traditional traffic lights that operate on fixed schedules, the new system responds dynamically to traffic demand, reducing congestion, improving vehicle movement, and enhancing road efficiency.
Director Geduspan said the technology is expected to help ease traffic bottlenecks along one of Kalibo’s busiest corridors while providing a safer and more convenient travel experience for motorists, commuters, and pedestrians alike.
The LTO-6 Director added the project represents another step toward bringing modern, technology-driven solutions to Western Visayas and supporting local governments in building safer, smarter, and more efficient transport systems.
As Kalibo prepares to activate its new intelligent traffic signals, residents can look forward to a future where traffic management is no longer dictated solely by timers—but by real-time conditions on the road.
