Madalag, Aklan Takes a Step Toward Becoming a Smart and Sustainable Community

MADALAG, Aklan-:The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VI formally conducted the Ceremonial Launching of the Municipality of Madalag, Aklan as a Smart and Sustainable Community on July 20, 2026. The activity was attended by municipal officials, department heads, and employees, signifying the local government’s commitment to embracing digital transformation and science, technology, and innovation (STI)-driven governance.

During the program, DOST-Aklan Provincial Director Dyna Rose R. Gubatanga presented the Smart and Sustainable Communities Program (SSCP) and its STI-based interventions designed to strengthen local governance, improve public service delivery, and accelerate the digitalization of government processes. The initiative supports local government units in adopting innovative technologies that promote efficiency, transparency, resilience, and sustainable community development.

A key highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of DOST-developed digital solutions, including SmartGov, an intelligent office system designed to modernize government operations. Recognizing its potential to streamline human resource management, the Local Government Unit of Madalag expressed its commitment to adopt SmartGov, transitioning from its existing manual human resource system to a more efficient and digital platform.

The ceremonial launching marks a significant milestone in Madalag’s journey toward becoming a smarter, more connected, and sustainable municipality.
