Panay 1212: The Legend of the Birth of Ati-atihan Festival

KALIBO, Aklan- All is gearing up for the preparations of their Ati Atihan Festival stage production of Panay 1212 The Legend of the Birth of Ati Atihan Festival.The Kalibo Council for Culture and the Arts Performing Arts Guild is taking priority to showcased it’s talents to the people of Aklan, now it’s not only the students of Regional Science High School for Region VI to be on the centerstage but also talented of Garcia College of Technology, Aklan State University and the Northwestern Visayas Colleges.

The Local Government of Kalibo under the tutelage of its Mayor Juris B. Sucro, is continuing the two decades long project of Mayor Reymar Rebaldo, the KCCA Performing Arts Guild which aims to promote the richness of Aklanon culture, arts and the vastness of it’s talents thru singing, dancing, and theater acting.


This time and again, in partnership with Fairways and Bluewater Resort Boracay thru its project, Community Service thru Culture and the Arts, now on its 5th year of continued partnership to harness the talents of young individual in the community of Kalibo, to be in the centerstage while promoting the Aklanon plays like the Diez y Nueve, a re-enactment of the 19 Martyrs of Aklan which centers the life and great contribution of Candido Iban and Gen. Francisco del Castillo to the Katipunan, The Legend of Engkanto sa Bukid-Tigayon, and the famous Barter of Panay.

This a notable project which aims not only to further develop individual’s capacity and to go further beyond its limitation in Performing Arts that has brought these young students to Sigma, Capiz, Pandan, Antique, SM City Iloilo City, Koronal City, Intramuros, Manila, and in some parts of Aklan, to name a few.

At present, they are preparing for the upcoming Ati-Atihan Festival 2024, for a stage-musical play which starred Sean Michael Ventura as Datu Puti, Trisha Ileto as Pinangpangan, Hannah June Oliva as Queen Manwantiwan, and Gil Lachica as King Marikudo and the talented students from from RSHS for Region VI, GCT, ASU and NVC. which will be shown on January 17, 2024 at 7pm, Magsaysay Park.
