
KALIBO, Aklan- Several Akeanon Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) are still currently stranded in Ukraine.
According to Bim Meren, 30 who recently came home, the undetermined number of OFWs could not come home because of the escalated shelling of missiles of Russian forces against Ukraine. A
ccording to the report of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), they have reported some 90 OFWs from Ukraine recently. Meren was among those who have been repatriated.
Meren said that there are still around three more Aklanon OFWs stranded in Ukraine.
“They told me in the chat that they were supposed to be repatriated, but their travel has been cancelled due to heavy shelling of Russia,” he said.
Meren, a ship oiler ame to Ukraine in the third week of February to deliver clay from Italy. Their vessel was not allowed to sail after the Russia starts invading Ukraine on February 24.
