Why MM Resort would soon become the local’ Universal Studio’ in Aklan?

NEW WASHINGTON, Aklan-  Its administrator, Brian Yu, serves as a team leader who created the lighting effect of the famous Universal Volcano Bay in Florida, USA.

In an interview with the Boracay Island News Network, Brian, the son of Dr Ruffy Yu, said he created the concept of the lighting effects now displayed at the said Volcano Bay.  It is a tropical theme park at the Universal Orlando Resort, where a million tourists visit annually.

“I created and implemented the lighting effect seven years ago. I hope I am now planning to visualize a concept for MM Resort as soon as I can. Hopefully I will be able to start the project this summer,” he said.

The MM Resort and Convention Center is a 4.4-hectare inland resort at Sitio Malogo, New Washington Aklan. Its founder, Dr Ruffy Yu (Brian’s father), is a native of Barangay Tambak, New Washington. 

It was fully opened to the public on February 28, 2024. It was first introduced to the public through a soft opening on May 30, 2023.

“I actually started the lighting effect last December 2023 in time for the Christmas season. I’m hoping to have a better presentation this summer,” he added.

The young Uy graduated in theatrical lighting coruse from the California Institute of Arts.He has been working on several lighting projects at various themed parks in the USA including Disneyland.

“When I was a kid, I was amazed at how the Christmas lights worked. I keep on unplugging it and plugging it again,” Uy said.
