KALIBO, Aklan-Households with members engaged in agricultural activities are the focus of the ongoing Updating of List of Agricultural Farm Operators (ULAFO) being conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Aklan.

The ULAFO is a nationwide undertaking that gathers essential information about farmers and farming operations. The data collected will serve as the basis for developing a statistical sampling frame for various agricultural surveys of the PSA.

This initiative also incorporates geospatial technologies through the use of digital maps to capture the location of households, which will be utilized in the formulation of geo-enabled list frames.

The agricultural activities covered in this listing include crop production, contract growing of trees, raising of livestock and poultry, as well as contract growing of livestock and poultry animals.
A total of 76 enumerators were deployed by the provincial office in Aklan to conduct house-to-house visits and collect data in 237 barangays not covered during the 2022 Census of Agriculture and Fisheries (CAF) conducted in 2023.

Information being collected from the households includes parcel characteristics such as number, area, and location of parcels; their main use; types of temporary and permanent crops grown; kinds of livestock and poultry raised; and corresponding inventories.

“All this information is vital to the proper selection of samples in agricultural surveys to ensure that results accurately reflect the current condition of the agriculture sector,” Chief Statistical Specialist Antonet Catubuan explained.

Among the household-based agriculture-related surveys that are regularly conducted by PSA every quarter are the Palay and Corn Production Survey, Crop Production Survey, and Backyard Livestock and Poultry Survey.

The PSA is urging all households to participate in the ULAFO by providing complete and truthful responses to enumerators.

The agency also assured respondents that all information gathered will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, as provided for by law.
