Malay, Aklan- As part of the National Heritage Month 2025 celebration, the LGU-Malay, through the Municipal Tourism Office, held the Malaynon Heritage Cooking Contest at the Malay Ecological Park on May 23,2025, highlighting traditional local dishes across three categories: Appetizer, Main Course, and Dessert.
Participants from various barangays showcased authentic Malaynon recipes, with winners selected based on authenticity, taste, presentation, and cultural value.
Contest Winners:
APPETIZER
1st: Brgy. Cubay Sir (Ensaladang Talong)
2nd: Brgy. Caticlan (Atsara)
3rd: Brgy. Argao (Ensaladang Puso)
MAIN COURSE
1st: Brgy. Cogon (Bas-oy nga Manok)
2nd: Brgy. Motag (Dulis nga Paksiw)
3rd: Brgy. Caticlan (Ginataang Nipa)
DESSERT
1st: Brgy. Motag (Coconut Candy)
2nd: Brgy. Cubay Sur (Minatamis na Saba)
3rd: Brgy. Kabulihan (Bukayo)
Furthermore, the event was graced by the following guests: Mr. Mark Delos Reyes, MLGOO VI of DILG, Ms. Astrophel Tabanera and Ms. Sharon Juliano of Boracay Foundation Inc., Ms, Lhodie Caldeo of Hue Hotel, Ms.Honey Joy Tomilloso of Paradise Garden Resort Boracay, Mr. Bobby Casimero of Malay Tour Guide Association, barangay officials, and the panel of judges, Mr. Nicko Jay R. Cahilig, Mr. Leonardo E. Delos Reyes and Ms. Hanna Mae B. Tayco.
Mayor Frolibar S. Bautista and Tourism Officer Dr. Felix G. Delos Santos Jr. thanked all participants and supporters, emphasizing the importance of culinary heritage in promoting local tourism.
