Cainta, Rizal — The newly established organization, *PWD Issues & Concerns for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities*, has officially launched, marking a significant step forward in the fight for the rights and inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across the Philippines. The organization, affiliated with the
Alyansa ng may Kapansanan na nagmamaneho ng Sasakyan at Motor sa Pilipinas. (ALKASAMOPI), aims to protect and promote the rights and privileges of PWDs, fostering an inclusive community where no one is left behind.
Founded in 2017, ALKASAMOPI has been at the forefront of advocating for the rights of PWDs, particularly in ensuring accessibility in transportation and road safety. The newly formed PWD Issues & Concerns organization will build on this legacy, focusing on integrating PWD rights into mainstream society. Their objectives include promoting accessibility in transportation, facilities, mobility devices, and employment opportunities, ensuring that PWDs are recognized for their contributions, potentials, and diversity.
The organization’s mission and vision are clear: to work closely with PWDs, empowering them to take control by providing information, advice, and personal advocacy. They aim to support individuals and groups whose rights have been violated and to identify and promote social change.
At the core of their principles is a commitment to the full participation of PWDs in all aspects of society. The organization is driven by passion, innovation, and a fearless dedication to defending the rights and interests of PWDs. They also emphasize collaboration and support within the broader disability rights movement.
The organization’s motto, “Disability is Not the Problem But, Accessibility is the Problem,” “Pag-una at Hindi Awa” and “See the Ability Not Disability,” reflects their belief that the primary challenge facing PWDs is not their disabilities, but the barriers to accessibility that prevent them from fully participating in society.
Mr. Joseph Delgado, a dedicated advocate for PWD rights and the Founding Chairperson of the organization, is leading the charge. His commitment to creating a more inclusive society for PWDs is evident in the organization’s ambitious goals and clear mission.Delgado’s father hails from New Washington, Aklan.
With the launch of this new organization, the fight for PWD rights in the Philippines takes on new momentum, bringing hope and empowerment to thousands of PWDs across the country.
