KALIBO, Aklan- The Social Security System (SSS) has cited the role of the media in their Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) campaign, especially in the province of Aklan.

Atty. Bernardo Dofitas Jr., SSS Vice President for Visayas, said that they had already ‘visited’ some 36 establishments in the province of Aklan that were found delinquent. At least 12 of these cases were from Boracay Island.

Atty. Dofitas himself leads the conduct of RACE campaigns, going through each establishment to remind them of their duties.

“The media at least helps spread out the information to the public, creating awareness in the community,” he said in an interview with the media.

Among those in the lists verified by the SSS-Aklan include some hotels, travel agencies, and a school among others. Once the establishments were visited under the RACE program, they were given 15 days to pay their dues.

“Delays in the payment of SSS dues also mean delays in the release of benefits to employees,” he added.

The SSS was created under the virtue of Republic Act No. 1161, better known as the Social Security Act of 1954.
