
BORACAY Island The Philippines wins gold during the Asia Oceanic Beach Ultimate Championship (AOBUC).
This year’s sports ย beach ultimate was held in Shirahama, Japan, from June 12โ16. Prior to the sports competition, the team waved their Philippine flag in celebration of the 165th Philippine Independence Day.
The gold win was announced by Malay Councilor Datu Yap Sumndad, a member of the Philippine team, on Sunday noon. Sumndad participated in the beach frisbee tournament, representing the Boracay Dragons Team.
“Gold medal for Team Philippines (Boracay Dragons) Back-to-Back Champs in the Asia Oceanic Beach Ultimate Championships. Thank you all to prayers and support, We love you all. Lagi para sa Bayan,” he said in his Facebook post.
Sumndad mentioned it is back-to-back gold for the country in the categories of Pilipinas Open, Pilipinas Women, and Pilipinas Mixed. The Philippines Open and Women Category each engaged the Japan team.
The Pilipinas mixed battled the strong India team. The championship competition features sports such as Beach Ultimate, Beach Ultimate Frisbee, and Flying Disc.
Aside from Japan and India, other countries in the Philippines were Australia, Singapore, and South Korea, among others.
In November 2023, the Philippine National Team won silver in the World Beach Ultimate Championship held in Huntington Beach, California, USA.
