Dumangas Multi-Awarded Filmmaker Hails “Kusinerang Bulag” Film

DUMANGAS, Iloilo — Multi-awarded filmmaker, poet, fictionist, and author Peter Solis Nery has praised the upcoming film Kusinerang Bulag (The Blind Cook) for showcasing the communities, cuisine, and natural beauty of Iloilo.

Nery, who is currently in the United States on vacation, is a strong cultural advocate and hails from Dumangas, Iloilo—one of the film’s shooting locations. Other sites include Iloilo City, Pangasinan and Batanes.

The full-length film is produced by Bente Production, an affiliate of CARD-MRI, a microfinance institution based in San Pablo, Laguna. It is directed by Hugo “Boboy” Yonzon III and stars Victor Neri, Jean Garcia, Samantha Samarita and Arra San Agustin.

“I made all my movies in Dumangas. Of course, I want more movies by other filmmakers to be made there! Haha. That’s why I started making films in my hometown,” said Nery, a Hall of Fame Palanca awardee.

The movie tells the story of three sisters who are struck by tragedy and show resilience in rebuilding their family-owned restaurant.Kusinerang Bulag is the second film produced by Bente Production.

Its first film, I Remember You, was shot in Boracay in 2024.
