ROXAS CITY — Basketball fans filled the Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center on Mother’s Day as the much-awaited exhibition game between the Gilas Legends and the Roxas City Flyers Selection finally took place in Roxas City.

The historic matchup served as a major highlight of the Roxas City 75: Legends & Champions Basketball Festival, one of the centerpiece events of the city’s Diamond Jubilee celebration, organized under the leadership of Mayor Ronnie Dadivas.

The event brought excitement among local basketball enthusiasts, especially with the participation of James Yap and JR Quiñahan, who played for the Roxas City Flyers Selection. The inclusion of Yap and Quiñahan added regional pride to the roster, as both are prominent Negrense basketball players.

It was the first time the Gilas Legends played in Roxas City, making the event even more special for supporters and families who spent their Mother’s Day at the venue. The atmosphere inside the civic center was lively, with spectators enjoying every moment of the friendly yet competitive matchup.

The Gilas Legends eventually secured the victory, outlasting the local selection with veteran poise and experience.

Aside from fans from Roxas City, many basketball supporters from different parts of the Panay region also traveled to watch the game live. For many, it was a memorable experience to see some of the country’s basketball icons play in person and witness a historic basketball event in Roxas City.
