KALIBO, AKLAN- To strengthen the country’s tourism industry data, the Philippine Statistics Authority Aklan is presently conducting the Household Survey on Domestic Visitors (HSDV) among selected sample households in the province.

The survey aims to capture the travel characteristics of household members to generate information on the volume of domestic and international visitors, as well as travel patterns, which will serve as inputs in the formulation of policies and development plans related to domestic tourism. Likewise, statistics that will be derived from the survey will serve as inputs to the Philippine Tourism Satellite Account (PTSA), Philippine National Accounts, and in the preparation and monitoring of the implementation of the National Tourism Development Plan.

Among the data being collected in the survey are the travel information of household members aged 15 years old and over, such as main destinations and places visited, mode of transportation, availment of package tours, and travel plans for the next 12 months.

All information pertains to travels undertaken from January to December 2025.

Six statistical researchers were hired by Philippine Statistics Authority–Aklan to collect data from a total sample of 396 households across 22 barangays in the province. Two team supervisors were also commissioned to oversee the smooth conduct of the survey.

The national results of the 2022 HSDV showed that 39.1 percent of Filipinos aged 15 years old and over traveled within the country, wherein females (52.9%) outnumbered males (47.1%) as domestic travelers.

The primary reason for the majority of domestic travels was pleasure or vacation (39.7%), followed by visiting friends or relatives (32.9%), and medical or health reasons (11.6%).

In terms of destination, the National Capital Region (NCR) was the most visited place among domestic travelers for pleasure or vacation, accounting for a 10.4 percent share, followed by Pangasinan (6.4%) and Cebu (6.0%).

The HSDV is a joint undertaking of PSA and the Department of Tourism (DOT).
