The Land Transportation Office (LTO) officially launched its Scholarship-to-Livelihood Program (SLP) on May 19, with LTO Region 6 Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II emphasizing that the initiative aims to produce quality and disciplined drivers through proper education and training.

Director Geduspan highlighted the importance of the program in strengthening road safety awareness and ensuring that drivers are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to follow traffic laws and regulations. He stressed that creating knowledgeable drivers who understand road signs, traffic rules, and responsible driving practices is essential in reducing road accidents and promoting safer roads for motorists and commuters alike.

The SLP provides participants with free driving assistance services, including Theoretical Driving Course (TDC) seminar, Practical Driving Course (PDC) training, medical examination, and processing fees for the Student Permit and Non-Professional Driver’s License.

The LTO Aklan District Office was allocated 48 slots for the program. The TDC Seminar, scheduled on May 20–21 at Aklan Polytechnic College, is being facilitated by District Chief Engr. Marlon L. Velez in partnership with Kalibo Sangguniang Bayan Member Matt Aaron P. Guzman.

Participants came from different municipalities in Aklan, representing various age groups and genders, reflecting the inclusive nature of the program and its goal of providing equal opportunities for aspiring drivers.

Velez and Guzman also co-host the road safety and transport awareness program ā€œKM 0: Start with LTOā€ on Kalibo Cable Television Network, where they regularly promote road safety, traffic discipline, and responsible driving practices. They expressed hope that initiatives such as the SLP will help produce more responsible and informed Aklanon drivers who value road courtesy, safety, and compliance with traffic laws.
