RTWPB-VI Set to Hold Public Hearing in Boracay on Minimum Wage Adjustments

MALAY, Aklan — The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board Region VI (RTWPB-VI) will conduct the fourth leg of its 2026 Public Hearing on Minimum Wage Determination for private sector workers in the provinces of Aklan and Capiz on October 20, 2026, from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM at Casa Pilar Beach Resort, Brgy. Manocmanoc, Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan.
The upcoming public hearing is part of the board’s mandate under Republic Act No. 6727, also known as the “Wage Rationalization Act,” aimed at assessing prevailing socio-economic conditions and evaluating whether a daily minimum wage adjustment is necessary for workers across Western Visayas.
Labor Alliances Push for Regional Wage Increase
The public consultation follows petitions filed earlier this year by a coalition of labor unions and labor advocacy groups across the region seeking a ₱250 daily wage increase to help workers cope with the rising costs of living and inflation.
Key labor proponents in Western Visayas leading the push include:
1.Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital Employees’ Union (IDHEU);
2. BPO Industry Employees Network (BIEN);
3. lloilo Pepsi-Cola Workers Independent Union;
4. Congress of Independent Organization-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (CIO/UNI-PLC-TUCP)
Social Dialogue and Stakeholder Participation
In an invitation letter dated October 5, 2026, RTWPB-VI invited business leaders—including Ramel V. Buncalan, President of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Aklan—to send authorized management and labor representatives to participate in the proceedings.
According to the Board, the session aims to foster an open, evidence-based dialogue between employers and workers to balance the economic realities faced by businesses while ensuring fair and sustainable wage adjustments for employees.
Organizations and representatives intending to participate are requested to confirm their attendance with the Board on or before October 9, 2026.
