KALIBO,Aklan- The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan is working on a P2.6 billion budget allocation for 2023.

Akllan Vice Governor Reynaldo Quimpo told the Rappler Monday in an interview that they are currently deliberating the budget and hope to approve it by December 19 this year.

The P2.6 billion budget is a million increase compared to that of 2022, which is at P2, 515, 217, 588.

“Our main concern these days is the discussions on agriculture and the investment code. We have asked those in charge certain revisions on the budget,” Quimpo said.

Alexys Apolonio of the Office of the Provincial Agriculture said that the province’s agriculture state needs rehabilitation after recent typhoon Paeng flooded agriculture farms in the province.

Reports from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office indicate some P45, 303 million in agricultural damages.

“Right now, a shortage of vegetables could be felt by the Aklanons. Farmers are now rushing to plant some more short term vegetable productions to cope with the anticipated demand this holiday season,” Apolonio said in a separate interview Tuesday said.

“But vegetables that reach three months’ production, such as eggplant and pepper, could still be harvested early next year,” he added.
