An Open Letter: Because Who Cares to Read!?
In a Province where Becoming a Potential Pro- Athlete is still a Challenge.
Becoming an athlete is truly a Challenge. While training so hard is a routine mantra, this takes a toll running in the mountains, keeping work outs or reps in momentum while toiling daily task to feed a family. You will encounter also a hefty financial burden for the Registration, Accommodation, Transportation, Allowances, Nutrition, Contingency/Emergency Budget in a certain Race.
As Larry’s Race is 2 weeks nearing, it is a challenge for him because who cares if he will represent the country? Or maybe at least his Panay Island, his Antique Province, his Iraynon-Bukidnon community who awaits to audience his 1st International race.
Maybe someone will care anyway so we dont bother at all. Maybe he chose this lone battle anyway. To witness this financial endeavors, it is with great appreciation that some people care. Gladly thru acquaintances in Mindanao and Luzon mostly, & a countable few friends from the Province, Larry’s Estimated Vietnam travel budget reached 35% yet to date. Some of those who arent even into outdoors care to lend 5 or 10 pesos which we are grateful about. So much appreciation that they bother to press send and contribute. Some of whom gave up a 1 day load or a cup of starbucks coffee. We campaigned for just Php 1.00. And a few heed to this call. Few heard this call.
Maybe when times comes, we can celebrate together with his wins, and at the same time at least to his struggles prior. I just hope.
Or maybe, when we fail to share a little, his dream is far fetch fading away especially to upcoming next races. Hope not.
This has been an experience behind the shadow, behind the scene of Larry’s journey to his 1st International Run. While Lobbying to build, to draft and to create resolutions with matters that entail preparation and support to local athletes and promoting this to younger generation potential athletes is a struggle, the how is this possible when even 1 peso is a challenge to gather remained in mind? Moreover, helping is not obligatory.
And while it is a challenge hopping and hoping to government offices to help his financial endeavors, days of processing took him away from the days he should have been on training. Everything else remains just papers or documents and paper trail until the proper trail run happens.
I hope, to someone who reads this, You will care to contribute. Just your 1 peso maybe! Piso lang man tani!
Because if nobody will, who will and when will we care?
