This November, as we celebrate National Children’s Month, I am reminded of the many faces of childhood — full of promise, curiosity, and hope. As a pediatrician and a mother, I see how every healthy child represents a brighter tomorrow, and how every child’s pain or neglect is a call for all of us to do better.

National Children’s Month, established under Republic Act No. 10661, commemorates the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. It serves as a yearly reminder that each child has the right to life, health, education, and protection from harm. Beyond medical care, children need love, guidance, and safe spaces where they can grow, learn, and dream freely.

Here in Aklan, I encourage our local government units, civic organizations, schools, and faith communities to come together in celebrating this month meaningfully — through health missions, feeding programs, parenting education, and child-safety campaigns. Even small gestures, like checking on a child’s well-being or ensuring they get proper meals, make a world of difference.

When we care for a child, we care for the future. Let this celebration be a renewal of our shared duty to nurture, protect, and uplift the next generation — one child, one family, and one community at a time.
