DSWD sends P8m-worth of aid for Goring affected families

As of 5p.m. of Wednesday, August 30, 2023, the DSWD Field Office VI has released P8-million worth of assistance to families affected by Southwest Monsoon enhanced by typhoon Goring.

“We thank our field staff who are ensuring that goods are delivered to the Local Government Units (LGUs). We also commend the LGUs which are fast in the distribution of goods to their people,” said Atty. Carmelo N. Nochete, regional director.

Of the amount, Iloilo and Negros Occidental Provinces were provided with most aid as typhoon Goring brought flooding in many areas in these provinces. Antique and Bacolod City were also provided augmentation in the form of family food packs and non-food items.

If broken down, goods released for Antique reached P373,312; Iloilo, P3.4 million; Iloilo City, P99,400; Negros Occidental, P2.9 million; and Bacolod City, P1.1 million.

FAMILIES AFFECTED

According to Disaster Response and Management Division Chief Judith Tanate-Barredo, their records shows 65,036 families affected with 236,219 individuals coming from 686 barangays in Western Visayas.

Latest report shows that 10,257 families with 32,657 individuals remain in 369 evacuation sites. Meanwhile 5,311 families with 20,967 individuals left their homes and are staying temporarily with their relatives.

Damaged houses, on the other hand, reached 177. Of the number, 52 were totally damaged while 125 were partially damaged.

During the onslaught of typhoon Goring, while Western Visayas was not directly hit, the weather disturbance enhanced the Southwest monsoon, and brought heavy rains in Region 6, leaving many areas under water.

AUGMENTATION

Director Nochete has already requested for the DSWD Central Office to send additional goods for Western Visayas.

Even prior the typhoon, the director has already requested for the provision of additional 30,000 family food packs for the region./dswd6
