Fil-Am celebrities eye Aklan province as a potential shooting location

MAKATO, Aklan- A group of Filipino-American (Fil-Am) celebrities from Los Angeles, California, are currently in the province looking for a potential shooting location.

Tommie Mopia, a native of Makato, Aklan said that he brought the group with the hope of not only promoting Boracay but also the province of Aklan as a center of the entertainment industry in the region.

Among those Fil-Am celebrities include Garth Garcia, known as the Fil-Am prince of pop, former That’s Entertainment star Bunny Paras, MNL Boys; Charlie (Marshall)  St. Cyr, the founder of CMI Entertainment; and Lyndon Apostol, a theater coach.

“We bring them here to also enjoy Boracay and promote the island in the entertainment industry. They are only the first batch and there are more to come. We would like to promote Aklan as the Hollywood of the Philippines in the entertainment industry. We also hope to discover talents in the province through this endeavor,” Mopia told the Boracay Island News Network.

Mopia was known in California as one of the most influential personalities. He was also cited as an Outstanding Young Entrepreneur by CNN Philippines.

Alongside Mopia to promote the entertainment industry globally is Maria Damian of Barangay Estancia, Kalibo Aklan.

In California, Damian founded Legacy Entertainment.

“We are now here in Aklan to scout for potential locations in the production of movies and entertainment,” she said.
