Kalibo Councilor Guzman Urged for a Volunteerism Hub

KALIBO, Aklan- Resolution Number 2024-1345 requesting  Kalibo Mayor Juris Bautista-Sucro  to establish a volunteerism hub in this ati-atihan town proposed by Kalibo Councilor Matt Aaron P. Guzman was approved during the 87th Regular Session of the Kalibo Council on May 27, 2024.

A week later in the successive session, Guzman proposed an ordinance to create the ‘KALIBOluntirs” volunteerism hub with a designated Volunteerism Focal Person (VFP) who will work in close coordination with the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) -Western Visayas to enhance the presence of the volunteerism hub in Kalibo and facilitate the efficient dissemination of programs, projects and activities.

As part of the continuous efforts of the PNVSCA  to encourage and support community volunteering, designating a VFP is essential in synchronizing volunteer projects, ensuring that volunteers are properly reinforced and recognized for their contributions. Likewise, local policies, resolutions, ordinances, and executive orders are necessary to fully comprehend Kalibo’s volunteer landscape, pinpoint areas where PNVSCA could assist and, and improve or develop initiatives for volunteerism.

In response to this appeal, Councilor Guzman calls for the establishment of a volunteerism hub known as ‘KALIBOluntirs, or Kalibo ‘boluntirs’ (volunteers.). The hub will coordinate and manage volunteer activities, foster involvement and personal growth,  and improve the municipality’s social, economic, and environmental well-being,. It will serve as a centralized platform that effectively  organizes, coordinates, and promotes volunteer activities within the community by addressing numerous logistical, strategic, and operational elements to maximize the impact of volunteers.

In his part, Mayor Sucro has expressed support in the establishment of ‘KALIBOluntirs’ , which will function as a central point where volunteers can connect with organizations and projects that need their help. This hub will be a cornerstone of the Municipality of Kalibo in streamlining the matching of volunteers with opportunities  and ensuring their efforts are maximized for the greater good.

Sucro has designated Ms Guzman, as the Kalibo Volunteerism Focal Person while Irene Abao was named the LGU Kalibo Volunteerism Technical Staff.
