Kalibo Mayor Urges Millennials, Gen Z to Discover Kalibo at Philippine Travel Mart

MANILA โ Kalibo Mayor Juris Bautista-Sucro is inviting millennials and Generation Z travelers to discover the rich culture, traditions and creative heritage of Kalibo, Aklan, through the municipalityโs booth at the ongoing Philippine Travel Mart at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, from September 4 to 6.
Bautista-Sucro urged younger travelers to visit the Kalibo booth and experience what the town has to offer beyond its reputation as the gateway to the world-famous Ati-Atihan Festival.
โKalibo is a destination where tradition meets the younger generation,โ the mayor said, emphasizing the importance of introducing Kaliboโs cultural identity to millennials and Gen Z travelers.
Kalibo is widely known for the Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival, one of the Philippinesโ most celebrated cultural and religious festivals. Known for its colorful costumes, tribal-inspired body painting, street dancing and vibrant celebrations, the festival draws visitors from across the country and abroad.
But for Bautista-Sucro, the townโs cultural treasures extend far beyond the annual festival.
Among Kaliboโs most important heritage traditions is its piรฑa fiber weaving, locally associated with the traditional haboean weaving craft. The centuries-old practice of producing and weaving piรฑa fiber reflects the craftsmanship and cultural identity of Aklanon communities.
The tradition has also gained international recognition, with piรฑa weaving in Aklan recognized by UNESCO as part of the Philippinesโ living heritage.
The mayor said this cultural heritage can be particularly appealing to younger travelers who are increasingly looking for authentic, immersive and meaningful travel experiences.

The Kalibo booth at the Philippine Travel Mart showcases the municipalityโs tourism attractions, cultural traditions, local products and heritage, giving visitors an opportunity to learn more about the town and its people.
Bautista-Sucro encouraged millennials and Gen Z travelers to take the opportunity to stop by the booth, learn about Kaliboโs history and traditions, and consider the municipality for their next travel destination.
She also emphasized that promoting Kalibo among younger generations is important in ensuring that its traditions remain relevant and continue to be passed on to future generations.
With the Philippine Travel Mart bringing together tourism destinations, travel businesses and industry stakeholders from across the country, Kalibo is using the three-day event to position itself as a destination where living heritage, culture, creativity and modern tourism experiences come together.
The Philippine Travel Mart runs from September 4 to 6 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia.
