Malay MSWDO conducts parenting session for children of the second chances

Malay, Aklan โ€“ The Local Government Unit of Malay, under the leadership of Mayor Frolibar S. Bautista, through the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) headed by Ms. Jerre Mae B. Prado, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Boracay Island, successfully conducted its annual Parenting Session Year-End Celebration on Saturday, December 6, at Faith Village, Station 1, Manocmanoc, Malay, Aklan. The event brought together families and beneficiaries, including Children of the 2nd Chances, PYAP members, Children with Disabilities (CWDs), Indigenous Peoples (IPs), and Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) representatives.

The celebration opened at 1:30 PM with multimedia presentations of the Prayer, National Anthem, and Malay Hymn. Ms. Celestial P. Prado, DCW-II and Focal Person for Children, welcomed the participants, followed by an inspirational message from Mayor Frolibar S. Bautista, who highlighted the significance of nurturing strong family foundations and fostering a compassionate, engaged community.

One of the key segments of the program was the Parenting Session led by Mr. Dannie S. Solidum, a family counselor. The session was further enriched by a moving testimony shared by Juanilyn Gelito and her daughter Althea, whose story of resilience, communication, and rebuilt parentโ€“child connection deeply resonated with attendees.

Continuing the municipalityโ€™s advocacy for accessible and flexible education, Ms. Liberty C. Tumaob, Alternative Learning System (ALS) teacher, provided an orientation on ALS programs, encouraging parents to explore alternative educational pathways for learners of all ages.

Additional messages of support and encouragement were delivered by Hon. Grengo T. Gelito, Chairman of the Committee on Social Welfare, and Atty. Immanuel Sadusta, President of the Rotary Club of Boracay Island. Both emphasized the importance of sustained partnership and community involvement in advancing local social welfare initiatives.

The MSWDO also awarded Certificates of Appreciation and Recognition to partners and contributors for their dedicated support throughout the year. Adding excitement to the gathering, a raffle draw was held, followed by the Distribution of Support Assistance, which included rice and food packs for families in need.
The program concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Andro S. Solidum, Social Welfare Officer II. The event was successfully hosted by Ms. Tricia C. Casidsid, who served as the emcee.

The MSWDO reiterated its commitment to providing programs that strengthen family relationships, promote effective parenting, and deliver essential support services to the people of Malay as the year draws to a close.
