KALIBO, Aklan – The US Peace Corps for Coastal Resource Management (CRM) in Aklan, in close collaboration with local government units (LGUs) and fisheries stakeholders, has officially initiated the implementation of the FishMARK Assessment Tool, with Numancia being the first LGU assessed. This innovative system is designed to track, evaluate, and strengthen fisheries management programs within municipal waters.

The initiative supports national efforts to enhance fisheries governance and aligns with local priorities to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and promote fisheries resource sustainability. By identifying gaps and highlighting successful practices, the FishMARK assessment will serve as a foundation for crafting/updating LGU Coastal Resource Management (CRM) plans and budget allocations.

The assessment results will be consolidated and presented in a province-wide review after completion, setting the province’s improved collaboration and shared learning among coastal municipalities.
