KALIBO, Aklan- The Maritime Industry Authority-Western Visayas (MARINA) has cleared the Metallica Shipyard in New Washington of responsibility over the oil spill incident that happened in the said town last June.
In a press conference at the Simone Hotel here Saturday, Engr. Jonathan Salvador, owner of the Metallica Shipyard, said that the MARINA has pointed to the ship owner as the main person responsible for the oil spill incident. MARINA has conducted an investigation and presented it to those affected in a meeting last Friday.
Salvador said that though Marina has cleared his company, his shipyard building is still closed for operation as mandated by the local government of New Washington.
He hoped that the New Washington LGU would soon cancel the closure order. Despite the incident, Salvador plans to upgrade the shipyard facility to cater to more ship companies, either for building a vessel, docking, or repair.
“I built the shipyard to provide jobs and help the economy of New Washington,” he added.
