No Lechon Festival in Numancia this year- Templonuevo

NUMANCIA, Aklan- The local government of Numancia has sacrificed the holding of the Lecho Festival during their religious fiesta in honor of St. Joseph the Worker, May 2–3.

In an interview, Numancia Mayor Jeserel Templonuevo said the reason is not because of the threat of the African Swine Flu (ASF), which recently headlined the Aklan province.

“This is because the local government has limited funding this year. We have to let go of the festival for now,” he said.
A few weeks ago, the Aklan provincial government announced in a press conference that at least two hogs had been confirmed ASF positive in Balete, Aklan.

Templonuevo said that the local government of Numancia is short of funds because of the austerity measures being imposed by the national government.

The Lechon Festival of Numancia, popularized by Templonuevo himself, features costume-themed lechon parades during their feast.
Currently, the municipal government of Numancia highlights the Miss Numancia Pageant and some other activities in their forthcoming celebration this year.
