OPA-Fisheries Division personnel trained on Marine Habitat Assessment and Monitoring Methods

KALIBO, Aklan- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources VI conducts a Training on Marine Habitat Assessment and Monitoring Methods on May 17-19, 2023 at the Provincial Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Training, Development and Product Center, New Washington, Aklan. This training is a capacity development for government policy makers and coastal marine environmental advocates towards ensuring a long-term sustainability of coastal developments through efficient monitoring practices.

This is a specific need identified in the region to revive the marine habitat assessment team and to cope up with fast the paced-coastal development.

The second day of the training is held in Jawili, Tangalan, Aklan. The participants were divided into three (3) groups, with assigned tasks on Fish Visual Census, Coral Assessment and Seagrass Assessment. Each participant was able to perform the methods discussed during the lecture series, as such data gathered will be reported and presented on the third day.

In behalf of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist headed by Engr. Alexys T. Apolonio, we would like to extend our sincerest thanks and appreciation to BFAR VI thru Regional Executive Director Remia Aparri, Ms. Jessica Esmao, Chief, BFAR RFTFCD, and Mr. Richard Cordero, OIC BFAR PFO-Aklan for accommodating our request to train OPA and PDRRMO personnel on Marine Habitat Assessment and Monitoring Methods.

This in turn provides a better understanding of the marine habitat so they can be managed more effectively. It is within our stand that environmental monitoring is a key factor in developing long term management plans of the coastal resources of the province of Aklan.
