KALIBO, Aklan—The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry—Aklan Chapter and Kalibo Mayor Juris Bautista-Sucro have expressed plans to have a joint petition seeking to ensure the electricity and water quality in this ati-atihan town.
Mayor Sucro welcomed the newly-elected officers and members of the PCCI-Aklan in his office Tuesday afternoon. Among those discussed were concerns about the problematic power and water supply in Kalibo.
“As much as we wanted to attract investors, they (investors) are wary of investing here because of the cited concerns. Both the Aklan Electric Cooperative (AKELCO) and the Metro Kalibo Water District (MKWD) have a mandate of providing quality services to their consumers,” Sucro said.
Lloyd Macahilig, president of the PCCI-Aklan, said that the board of trustees has recently approved its endorsement of Kalibo LGU as a business-friendly municipality.
For several years, the Kalibo LGU has been a finalist as a business-friendly area but has yet to be declared a champion.
“We believed in the leadership of Mayor Sucro, including his support for the business community,” Macahilig said.
Aside from the concerns of stable power and water supply, other concerns discussed were also the conduct of business development forums, the expansion of the Kalibo Public Market to promote other areas, and a quarterly meeting with the local government.
