KALIBO, Aklan- The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Aklan Chapter has urged the Aklan Electric Cooperative (AKELCO) to charge penalties of only two percent to delinquent member consumers.

It was stated in the resolution number 032-series of 2022 sponsored by PCCI-Aklan Chairman Ramel Buncalan and seconded by Ph.D. Doctor Noe Buncalan.

The resolution stemmed from the announcement of AKELCO recently that it will soon charge a ten percent penalty to delinquent member consumers. The AKELCO claimed that more than half of overall member consumers are not paying on time which hampers their operation.

“Members of the business community are still reeling from the Covid-19 pandemic. We learned that the Capiz Electric Cooperative (CAPELCO) in nearby Capiz province is only charging a two percent penalty from their member consumers,” Buncalan said.

The AKELCO will be officially presenting the proposal to the member consumers on Saturday during the Annual General Membership Assembly (AGMA).

The event is staged at the ABL Sports Complex in Barangay Estancia, Kalibo, Aklan. After presentation of the proposal, the AKELCO will then present it to the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) in Manila for review and final approval.
