BORACAY Island, Aklan- An executive of the Tourism Congress of the Philippines has urged the Department of the Philippines (DoT) to lead the task force to be formed to sustain Boracay Island.
Peter Tay, a Singaporean businessman in Boracay and at the same time the Vice President of the Tourism Congress said, he has personally addressed this concern to newly appointed DoT Secretary Maria Esperanza Christina Garcia Frasco to discuss with the challenges that confronts this resort island.
The Tourism Congress of the Philippines is considered the leading voice of the tourism industry under RA 9353 dubbed as the new tourism law.
Among the concerns raised are the Covid-19 situations in Boracay involving South Korean tourists, the increased tourism capacity, the completion of road projects, open direct flights to and from Malaysia and Singapore, mobile courts, tourism police among others.
“DoT Secretary Frasco has mentioned that she will be coming to Boracay soon to personally see these challenges. I also told her to consider the slogan to have Fun in the Philippines to Experienced Philippines Now,” Tay told the Boracay Island News Network in an interview.
It could be recalled that the task force formed under the Duterte Administration has terminated its responsibility over Boracay in June 2022. The task force was then spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
