Warning Out on Toxic Cockroach Powder Bait Sold Locally for P10 per Sachet

Quezon City- The toxics watchdog group EcoWaste Coalition has cautioned consumers against the use of an unregistered cockroach powder bait, which the Government of France recently banned for containing a health-damaging ingredient.

As published on January 23, 2026, on Safety Gate, the EU’s rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products, the French Government ordered the “stop of sales” of Green Leaf Powder Cockroach Killing Bait effective November 23, 2025, for non-compliance with the Biocidal Products Regulation.

According to Alert Number SR/00108/26: “The product contains fipronil, a substance that is toxic if swallowed, toxic in contact with skin, fatal if inhaled and causes damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure.”

The product is “made in China” by Suzhou Green Hercules Biotechnology Co., Ltd. with barcode number 6975627620006.

Based on monitoring conducted by the EcoWaste Coalition at Mega Q Mart in Quezon City, Green Leaf Powder Cockroach Killing Bait from the same manufacturer and with the same barcode is locally sold for P10 per plastic sachet.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has in the past issued several advisories against the purchase and use of unregistered household/urban pesticide products, such as those intended to control or kill ants, cockroaches, fleas, flies, mosquitoes, rodents, ticks and other common pests.

Unregistered household/urban pesticides “may contain harmful ingredients or impurities that may pose health risks to consumers, such as adverse health reactions, allergies, skin problems, or other health issues,” the FDA warned, noting “the agency cannot guarantee (the) safety, quality and efficacy” of non-compliant products.
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has classified fipronil as a “possible human carcinogen.”

The Pesticide Action Network (PAN) has likewise included fipronil on its list of highly hazardous pesticides (HHPs) for global phase-out due to its carcinogenicity and toxicity to bees.

The EcoWaste Coalition has already reported the matter to the FDA, requesting the agency to release the corresponding public health warning to assist consumers in making informed choices, and to stop further marketing of the said unregistered household/urban pesticide containing fipronil.
