KALIBO, Aklan- In celebration of National Women’s Month, the Kalipi SLP Association of the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VI conducted a potholder–making workshop during the Product Bazaar at CityMall Kalibo.
The association, composed of women from Lezo, Aklan, is supported by DSWD6 SLP through a livelihood grant amounting to Php 563,063 for their handicraft project. Members were trained in producing fuzzy wire and crochet crafts, as well as rugs and pot holders, which they now create and sell in their community.
With their growing skills and experience, the group was invited to facilitate the workshop. Association President Girlie M. Barreto, together with Mariah Melli Scent Barreto and John Ley S. Mobo, led the session attended by participants from various municipalities in Aklan. Mallgoers also showed interest and joined the activity, including male participants eager to learn the craft.
The workshop aimed to share skills and promote additional livelihood opportunities. By the end of the session, participants proudly completed their own handmade pot holders.
The activity highlights how SLP continues to empower communities, especially women, through skills training and sustainable livelihood support./dswd6/cdf/Glory Mae P. Panase
