New Washington, Aklan- The Municipality of New Washington achieved a significant milestone after being conferred the Gold Award in the 2026 Region VI Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Assessment Recognition Program, in recognition of its exemplary and sustained efforts in disaster preparedness, risk reduction, and emergency response.
The recognition was awarded through the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC), highlighting New Washingtonโs strong institutional systems, proactive leadership, and whole-of-community approach to resilience-building.
The program opened with a message of appreciation from Atty. Melissa P. Banias, Chief of the DRRM Division and Operations Section of the Office of Civil Defense, who commended the municipality for its commitment to institutionalizing resilience through effective coordination, evidence-based planning, and community-driven DRRM initiatives.
The recognition underscores New Washingtonโs steadfast dedication to safeguarding lives, livelihoods, and vital infrastructure, and highlights the municipality as a benchmark of excellence in local DRRM implementation across the region.
