𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐍𝐎 𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

NEW WASHINGTON, Aklan- The Department of Tourism Western Visayas’ campaign to gender equality and to end all forms of discrimination in the tourism sector continue along with all the provinces in the region. Last August 12, 2026, The Department conducted another leg of Gender Sensitivity Orientation among tourism stakeholders of New Washington, Aklan held at Manuel C. Peralta Community Center.

Thirty-three (33) tourism stakeholders consist of representatives from different tourism-related establishments such as resort, mabuhay accommodation, hotel, and restaurant, transport and staff of tourism office of the municipality actively participated the one-day orientation.

Gender sensitivity awareness among tourism stakeholders is very important as they are in the frontline services on dealing with visitors. Some of the participants also shared their experiences on dealing with their clients especially those who are members of LGBTQIA+ community and even recommended some ways to properly approach them. It is highlighted during the orientation to use gender neutral language to avoid confusion and conflict among customers.

The orientation also gave light to the international and national mandates protecting women and children who were victims of exploitation within the industry. One of the highlights of the orientation is to let the stakeholders aware of the emerging gender-related issues and concerns as well as issues among children. This activity became an avenue for all stakeholders to take action to prevent any forms of discrimination and exploitation in their own locality.
