Boracay- The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region VI, through its Tourism Industry Skills Program (TISP), and in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VI, successfully conducted the Understanding Muslim Travelers Seminar for three batches on February 17โ€“19, 2026, at Hue Hotels and Resorts Boracay.
The three-day training gathered Boracay tourism stakeholders, including accommodation establishments, tourism frontliners, and other service providers, with the aim of strengthening cultural sensitivity and promoting halal-friendly tourism services in the island.
The seminar was facilitated by Ms. Norjanah C. Barosa, who served as the Resource Speaker. She provided valuable insights on Muslim culture, traditions, and religious practices, particularly those relevant to travel and hospitality services. Participants gained a deeper understanding of halal principles, prayer requirements, modesty considerations, and practical ways to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for Muslim travelers.
Through the Tourism Industry Skills Program (TISP), DOT Region VI continues to equip tourism stakeholders with the necessary knowledge and competencies to respond to emerging market demands. The initiative underscores the agencyโ€™s commitment to inclusivity and sustainable tourism development in Western Visayas.
The successful conduct of the three batches reflects the strong collaboration between DOT Region VI and DOST Region VI in supporting capacity-building programs for the tourism industry. By enhancing awareness and encouraging the adoption of halal-friendly practices, Boracay Island further strengthens its position as a globally competitive and culturally sensitive destination.
DOT Region VI remains committed to advancing programs that foster diversity, inclusivity, and excellence in tourism service delivery.
